\nYesterday was Father’s Day, and throughout the entire weekend I thought a lot about my dad, my grandfathers, my father-in-law, and my husband. \u00a0I am very blessed to have so many good men in my life. \u00a0As I thought especially about my dad, I began to think about the many qualities I appreciate about him, and the many ways he has influenced my life.<\/p>\n

Last night, I decided to write them down, and to share them. \u00a0My dad has never been one to seek the spotlight, and I hope he won’t be embarrassed that I am sharing these thoughts in a public way, but I want him and others to know how highly I regard him, and how thankful to God I am for him.<\/p>\n

Men of the quality and character he possesses seem to be fewer each day. \u00a0I am blessed to not only have a father who is this kind of man, but to have a husband who is as well. \u00a0I pray that perhaps these thoughts will encourage a dad out there to continue to be a godly father, and to perhaps challenge a young man to aspire to be this kind of dad someday. \u00a0And I hope that if you have a godly dad, a faithful father, that you will never take him for granted. \u00a0Those of us who have a godly father are blessed indeed! “Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?” \u00a0(Pro. 20:6) \u00a0Honor him. \u00a0Love him. \u00a0Encourage him. \u00a0Pray for him.<\/p>\n

Here are the top 31 ways my dad has been a faithful father to me:<\/p>\n

My dad\u2026<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2026.led me to my heavenly Father.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.has loved and been faithful to my mother for over 40 years.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.taught me to fear God.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026..was far more concerned about meeting my needs than my wants.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026..took the time to listen – to my prattle, and poems, and dreams, and questions, and frustrations, and fears.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026..modeled for me the type of man I wanted to marry.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.has always told me the truth, even when I didn\u2019t want to hear it.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.taught me that maturity is taking responsibility for your own actions.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.told me that I did not need to be like anyone else to make him happy, just follow the Lord, and be the person God made me to be.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.made me feel beautiful on the outside, but taught me that true beauty comes from the inside.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.taught me to keep my eyes and heart and confidence fixed firmly on what is unchanging, the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026..has always put himself last in order to put the Lord and his family first.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.taught me the value of being able to stand alone for what is right.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026..told me that he believed I could accomplish anything I wanted, but reminded me that the only thing worth accomplishing is the will of God.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026..has never made decisions based on a desire to be popular, or on the whims or emotions of the moment, but has lived his life by the principles and precepts of God\u2019s Word.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.has been a faithful preacher of the Gospel, not \u201cblown about by every wind of doctrine.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026..sacrificed his dreams so I could fulfill mine.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026..encouraged me to have tough skin and a tender heart.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.always made me feel safe.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026..reminded me often to stop \u201cbeating around the bush\u201d, because plain speech is easily understood.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.has faced good times and bad, faithful friends and fickle ones, heartaches and joys, successes and scars, victories and defeats, blessings and betrayals, with the same steadfast determination to trust in the Lord, and follow Him, no matter the cost.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.loved me enough to refuse to excuse, condone, or be a part of my sin, when I was foolish enough to go against the truth he had taught me.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.was always willing to forgive when I was willing to repent.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026..has never counseled me to do evil, and has always counseled me to do good.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.has always worked hard to provide for his family; but never chased money or \u201csuccess\u201d, even in ministry, to the neglect of his family.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.taught me to love and study the Word of God.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.is one of the wisest men I know.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.isn\u2019t a perfect dad, but has always been a good and godly dad.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026is never hasty to make decisions, but has never hesitated to follow God\u2019s leading.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.taught me that saving has more value than spending, but that giving has more value than getting.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.is a man of integrity.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe just man walketh in his integrity:\u00a0 his children are blessed after him.\u201d\u00a0 (Pro. 20:7)<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.\u201d (Ps. 16:6)<\/p>\n

\u201cFor thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.\u201d (Ps. 61:5)<\/p>\n
